Loving Dead Things

July 24, 2022 Cindee Klement

I specifically leave dried dead plant materials in the garden for 3 beautiful reasons. First many butterflies leave their eggs on the under side of dead leaves and many chrysalis look like crumpled leaves. If I bag and dispose off all the dead plant material we loose endangered insects. 2nd, birds need the seeds for nutrition. 3rd I love the soft earth tones they offer. One of the principles I apply to the garden is protecting the soil with plants.

As a result symbiosis is a sea of green. Traditionally contemporary gardens leave the bare ground around each plant. This results in compacted soil . A garden that adheres to regenerative agriculture principles needs earth tones to break up the green.
